After Ole Miss. got clobbered by Arkansas yesterday, I am thinking that if Alabama, which is in first place in the playoff poll, deserves to be there since they lost to Ole Miss.  Alabama can claim first because they beat Miss. State which was first before last week.  But Miss. State's claim to first place was mostly based on beating Auburn which has proven to be not so tough lately.  Is FSU the best team then since it is undefeated?  I don't know.   They have been doing the great escape every week.  But until someone can beat them, they deserve to be in the playoff for sure.  I am thinking they should just make it an 8 team playoff.  The champion of each of the big 5 conferences are in and then 3 wild cards are given, with no more than 3 teams from any conference.  The top 6 bowls would host the quarterfinals and semifinals.  There will still be controversies but if you win one of the big 5 conferences, you deserve to be in.  Otherwise there is no basis for complaint.

DWTS is very close.  So I won't make my final judgment until after seeing their last dances tomorrow.

Well, I've been saying all along that they should not have started with a 4 team playoff format. It's ridiculous and very controversial.

I agree with at least 8. Maybe even do a 12 team playoff, with a bye week for the top 4 teams.

I would have also liked for them to reduce the preseason games to make room for the added playoff games. However, I don't think adding another week would be such a big deal.

In fact, maybe they could of had the first round games at regular college stadiums, so that the northern teams would have some kind of advantage.

As far as DWTS goes, I usually don't watch it and will probably not get a chance to watch it tonight.

This might be the closest finale yet. Will Alfonso stay healthy enough to compete? If he does, I still like him to win it.

Surprised you didn't go over the executive order regarding immigration.

  2. I have a lot of thoughts about immigration and can't put them altogether right now. Someday I will write about it. The only thing I can say about Obama right now is that after the midterm losses, he is going out swinging. He made a climate agreement with China, made an executive order on immigration and fired Chuck Hagel. I don't think he would have done any of these before the election.

Alfonso first, Janel second and Sadie third in DWTS.

Not surprised by what happened in Ferguson tonight. When the Grand Jury took so long, something is not right. The bar is usually so low for indictment that it would be quickly decided to go to trial. Either there is evidence that support the cop that is not refutable or the prosecutor was phoning it in. If the prosecutor was phoning it in, it doesn't mean that he is racist or biased. It could be that he doesn't think he can win the case on trial so it maybe better for him if the Grand Jury doesn't even see probable cause to indict. That way he wouldn't look bad losing a high profile trial in public. But who knows what the facts are. The DA said that the Grand Jury was presented all the evidence. That in itself is unusual because you just have to show probable cause. He also said all the evidence will be made public. So will see how the pundits analyze the case soon. In the meanwhile, sadly, there will be violence.

It's a tough situation in Ferguson. I think that some people need the smallest excuse to riot but I also think that people can be frustrated by the system.

It's unfortunate that the general public does not get to see the evidence by the prosecutor, so that leads to a lot of speculation and assumptions.

As far as DWTS, I agree with your final 3. I really thought that Sadie was #4 if it were up to just dancing, but I do think that the Duck Dynasty vote is helping her a lot.

So with that, I think she'll be #2 tonight.

Some of the best freestyle dances last night with each being so different from each other.

I am not sure what Obama's strategy is right now. Does he think he can effect change during this time before the Republicans come to office?

I know Hagel "resigned" but didn't hear what the reasons were. It will be interesting to see who fills the spot. This person will only have 2 years on the job anyways.

    I came across this:

    http://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/asian-americans-show-solidarity-support-ferguson-n256001

I don't necessarily agree with them and I don't think the situations are that similar except for the perception that the justice system didn't work.

  5. I agree with you that the Chin case and what happened in Ferguson are not really similar. Chin was out right murdered, no question about it. Brown did commit a crime and so the cop should have confronted him. The perpetrators in the Chin case had no right to confront Chin outside the bar well after the fight was over.

Having said that I don't think justice has been served in Ferguson. As I said before, the bar for indictment by a grand jury is very low. It is extremely unusual for the prosecutor to present all the evidence. Let me put it this way, if a black guy had shot a police officer even if there is evidence of self defense, does anyone think that a prosecutor would not be able to get an indictment? From what I read so far, the cop claimed self defense but there was no cross examination by the prosecutor. It seems to me that the prosecutor presented all evidence that lead to reasonable doubt when in a grand jury situation you should have presented just enough to show probable cause.

One thing that may be similar between the two cases is that the judge in Chin case, I heard, was a Japanese POW in WWII. In the Brown case, I heard, the prosecutor's father was a cop who was killed in line of duty. If these two things are true, then I can see bias in both cases. I generally give cops the benefit of the doubt. But in this case, I have no problems with Asian American groups joining the protest and demanding a federal investigation or trial.
