Chris Rock got some flack from Asians for bringing 3 Asian kids on stage at the Oscars to tell a stereotype joke about Asians being good at math.  It was not very funny and a rather lame joke at such a big stage.  But I am not bothered by it as some people such as Jeremy Lin are.  I can understand Lin's position since stereotype prevented him from getting a div. 1 basketball scholarship and being drafted into the NBA.  Some black people don't like the stereotype of blacks being good athletes because they believe that implies that blacks are then not smart.  Lin believes that saying Asians are good at math implies that they cannot play sports.  I can understand these worries.

Personally, I don't get upset about these stereotype jokes.  If someone wants to make a joke about me being good at math, I don't mind at all.  To me it is only important and wrong if someone decides that an Asian is not given a chance to show what he can do on a court or in a field.  Same with the stereotype of the black athlete.  Who cares, as long as a black person is not denied to do anything he or she is qualified to do.

A follow up to last week's blog about the KKK endorsing Trump.  Instead of badgering Trump about disavowing the endorsements, the GOP should ask Trump why he thinks that he is so attractive to the KKK.  By the way, I think Romney's scathing attack on Trump is not going to hurt Trump.  After all, Trump's supporters are anti-establishment and who is more establishment than the last GOP nominee?

I wasn't surprised by the outrage regarding the Oscars bit. Especially with all the hype involved with the show and with the boycotts. I didn't mind the joke as Rock makes fun of all people. Even though I am sensitive about stereotypes, I don't mind the ones where the stereotype is actually not a negative. I mean, it's better to have a stereotype of being smart than to have one where the people are stupid or lazy.

I am still kind of glad to see Lin come out. It's important for someone with his celebrity to bring these things to the light. Afterall, he's shattered many stereotypes.

Trump is leading Michigan in the polls for tomorrow's primary. This is first time I've been a little scared to live here. I actually have a couple of friends who are supporters and I don't understand it. I don't mind Trump as a personality since he is entertaining, but to vote for him as a choice of president? And people wonder why I am cynical about the whole political process.

Still think that this whole mess falls squarely on the Republicans. It happened when they allowed the Tea Party to be the voice of the party. I agree that Romney probably helped Trump in some way. There is no one in that party that can get out of Trump's shadow right now and rally support away from him.

I recently read where they asked Trump supporters who they would vote for if Trump were out and they said Sanders. Of course it was an unscientific poll, but do people not research what these guys stand for? Do they not look through the BS?

I found a couple of things on the internet that I found interesting/amusing:

  3. I am surprised that Kasich isn't doing better in Michigan like Sanders in his border states. I mean he should at least beat out Cruz and Rubio decisively. If Kasich and Rubio lose in their own states, it will leave Cruz and Trump. What choices! At that point I think I would rather have Trump because Trump maybe more flexible of the two. There is a chance that Trump will change since he has changed before many times. Cruz will not change and even his colleagues in the senate hate him.

It is interesting about the second choice of Trump supporters is Sanders. It is like if you can't eat beef, you become a vegan! The authoritarian article is interesting but I don't know anything about the study or the author to make a reasonable comment. But I doubt that if you are voting for Trump because you like authority, then why would Sanders be your second choice? So the two interesting studies above seem to contradict each other. To me both Trump supporters and Sanders supporters want easy solutions to the problems in this country. Just build a wall and attack ISIS or throw the book at Wall Street. That to me is more of a link to the supports of these two candidates at the opposite of the spectrum. Of course I have no studies to prove my theory.

Peyton Manning finally calls it quits. I don't know why the delay. I would have quit after the neck injury couple of years ago. Then after winning the super bowl and have a chance to go out on top, why even think about it? I guess when he saw Brady signed the extension, he knew there was no way he can outlast Brady!

Well, my reply was not saved yesterday. I must have gotten someone mad!

I don't even remember what I wrote, so I'll just comment on the primary here in Michigan.

As expected, Trump won and Kasich, who had been campaigning hard here, came in 2nd. Not a good showing for Rubio.

In a surprise, Sanders beat Clinton. I'm pretty surprised about this because he was losing in the polls by double digits. I'm wondering if Clinton's supporters decided to not vote thinking she had it in the bag.

She had pounded away here, talking about Flint and being the only candidate who supported the bail out of the auto industry. So I'm surprised she lost.

Sanders did go to the big universities the last week, so maybe the young vote is bigger than we thought.

What is the thought out in California on Sanders? He seems like the type of candidate who would thrive there. I think I'm done with predictions on this election and just sit back and see what happens, because none of the results are really going as they normally would.

If I remember correctly, Dancing with the Stars is your favorite show. As I've said before, I have been able to catch it on occasion. My early prediction is that Antonio Brown will win it. I also see that Derek Hough is not in it this season, so it's a wide open contest.

  5. I was wondering why I did not see a comment from LBOAYM yesterday since the dancers for DWTS came out yesterday and LBOAYM is the number 1 fan of the show. I trust that he has researched the background and skills of all the contestants. So I take his word that Brown will be a force. I will go with Von Miller. Just like Bruce Lee when he won cha-cha championship of HOng Kong many years ago, I want to know which judge is going to tell Bruce, I mean Von, that he did NOT win!

Sanders did pull a big upset. If this is a pattern in the industrial Midwest, then we will have a battle all the way to June. California will be interesting because it is more liberal than Midwest states but it is not dependent as much on manufacturing but rather on service and trades. It seems that Sander's pitch about manufacturing worked for him in Michigan. As I mentioned before, people who support him and Trump seem to think that there are simple answers to problems. In this case, Sanders is against global trade pacts like NAFTA. He blames them for loss of manufacturing jobs. It may sound good to those who lost jobs but it is too simple. Whether there are trade agreements, the U.S. would have and will continue to lose manufacturing jobs. There is no cure for wage gaps between countries like China and the U.S. Any politicians who promise to bring jobs back are not telling the truth.
