I read recently that after 9/11 there was a call for workers to clean up the World Trade Center site. Not much money, about $10 per hour for very hard work.  But immigration status was not asked.  So most of the clean up work was done by undocumented immigrants.  They had little protection other than cheap masks.  Of course many of them ended up sick.  There are health programs for  people affected by 9/11.  But for undocumented workers it maybe difficult to to prove they were even in the country.  Some were paid off the book as the city tried to get things clean up as fast as possible.  Some of these workers are even afraid of deportation if  they come forward.

Now that Texas and Florida face clean up and rebuilding after the hurricanes, I wonder how much they are going to rely on undocumented immigrants?  When New Orleans had to be rebuilt, guess who came forward and did most of the work?  Now with the threat of deportation, will enough come forward this time?

Good question. However, what about Puerto Rico? I've never thought about illegal immigration in PR before. I would assume since it's harder to travel by boat to get there, it would be tougher to go there. Plus, the economic situation there is worse than in the mainland. Should we be more concerned that we haven't heard much about what is going on in Puerto Rico? I have heard that the power is still out in many parts there, but it seems to me that there hasn't been an outpouring of help there than there was in Houston and Florida. Maybe it's because Americans don't think of Puerto Ricans as Americans?

There's so much for you to write about from this weekend. I'm interested to see what you write next. However, I know that you want to write about your favorite show. So, last week, I watched the first episode and I didn't understand some of the judging. Looks like they are trying to judge scores low early. But a couple of the performances, to me, didn't even deserve some of the scores that were on par with the others. The Fisher guy that I picked seems to be pretty good. So I'll stick with him. I have a feeling that the woman from Shark Tank will be one of the earlier ones to go.

  2. FEMA supposedly is helping Puerto Rico but I doubt it is doing as much as it was doing for Texas and Florida. For one thing, there are no votes for Trump to get from Puerto Rico. He spent all weekend tweeting and talking about the NFL protests rather than the situation in Puerto Rico. The only way P.R. is going to get Trump's attention will be for a massive exodus to the U.S. I wonder if Trump will put P.R. on the travel ban list! He probably doesn't understand that you can't do that against American citizens. But then he doesn't understand that Americans have the freedom of speech either. Well, he does say the Nazis have freedom of speech.

Trump tries to make his travel ban less anti-Muslim by taking Sudan off the list and added Chad, Venezuela and North Korea to the list. Yes, three more countries that have not had any terrorists against the U.S. Ironically, a Sudanese man just shot at people in a church. If this is a terrorist attack, then Trump is protecting Americans by adding three countries without terrorists and deleting a country from the travel ban that actually now has sent us a terrorist.

I agreed with with LBOAYM that the Shark Tank lady should be first out. But I am not sure of his pick of Derek Fisher to win it all!
