Did anyone see Oprah's speech in the Golden Globe Award show? She sounded like someone running for president. It seemed like a far fetched idea whenever someone mentioned that Oprah should run. She has always said she wouldn't. But the speech would have been well received in a convention setting. And after Trump's improbable victory, who knows? But if this is the beginning of her campaign, then it came thanks to, according to Seth Meyer, three words that drive Trump crazy: Hollywood, Foreign, Press!

I watched a little of the Golden Globes. It's not a show I watch usually but happened to catch Oprah's speech. It was a good speech and it did sound like a campaign speech. I'd be interested to see if she would make a run for office. But like Trump, I have major reservations on how she would do. I find it difficult to accept that someone without previous government experience could come in and do anything. We've seen some of this with Trump even though he's been fortunate that his party is the majority in both houses.
ReplyDeleteI still doubt that she would run. As I said with Trump, what would her motivation be? Why not enjoy your life with all the money you have? I would be interested to see if she could win though. I'm not sure how I would feel if Americans elected her into office. I'd probably be a little disappointed, but if she runs against Trump, what's the lesser of two evils?
I can tell you that Oprah would have the money to do it and I'm sure she would have the Hollywood elite backing her. The question is what kind of skeletons are in her closet that could prevent her from running. What about Stedman? Does he skeletons in his closet?
How will she do in the primaries vs. The Rock and Tom Hanks?!
College football championship is tonight. I'm going with Georgia, just because the defense is terrific. I'm a little worried that Georgia's QB will choke, but he's shown a lot of poise all year. Plus they'll be playing in Atlanta, so that's gotta help.

CNN's David Gergen, who worked in the white house of Nixon, Ford, Reagan and Clinton, said it best: Voters may want to vote for someone with a complete different personality of the incumbent. In this case Oprah is completely opposite of Trump even though they both have TV backgrounds. On the other hand, I agree with you that given Trump's lack of political experience has really hurt the presidency, voters may not want someone with no political experience again.
ReplyDeleteI think she can win the Democratic nomination if she runs because the field is weak at this time. But you never know how she does on the campaign trail. I am not worried about skeleton in her closet. She has been around so long and been covered by tabloids way more than any politician. If she gets elected, she would need great advisors, particularly on foreign policy. But I think foreign policy is the weak point of almost every American politician as most never understand other countries.
I am rooting fop Georgia because I just don't like Alabama. Georgia is up 13-0 at half time as I am writing this. Hopefully they can hang on. It would be better if this was not an all SEC final. If Alabama and Georgia had lost in the semifinals, the Big Ten could have claimed supremacy given their 7-1 record in bowl games. {Thanks to Harbaugh, could have been 8-0}.
