The Democratic memo in response to the Republican memo has finally gone public.  This after two week delay to redact somethings that the FBI and Justice department deem risk to national security.  The two week delay means that very few people care about the response anymore.  This is what Trump wanted.  But I don't think it changed anybody's mind.  I can't tell who is telling the truth based on the excerpts from both sides.  But I think it says something when Trump allowed the GOP memo to be published right away despite the warnings from the FBI and the Justice department but he delayed the Democrat memo for the same reason.

I had given all hope for any change in gun laws.  But I see a light of hope provided by the high school students after the Florida shooting.  Their outrage and dedication to the cause of gun control is impressive.  Interestingly, some businesses are now backing away from working with the NRA.  I think the new generations, X, Y, and Z are going to be more proactive on this issue.  They are going to outnumber us baby boomers soon, if not already.  They are also the demographic that businesses go after.  So maybe politicians our age are beholden to the NRA, but the younger people will force businesses to back away from the NRA.  Money do talk.  These young people will be tomorrow's voters and politicians.  So there is hope, even if results may not be immediate.

The winter Olympics are finally over.  I thought it was boring.  I think women's gold medal hockey game was the only thing that kept me glue to the set.  They seem to be adding more and more sports each winter Olympics but I find them uninteresting.  I guess most of the new sports are put in to attract young viewers.  But I think even then NBC was running out of things to show.  Yesterday they showed a segment honoring the great diver Sammy Lee.  That is great except that diving is in the summer, not winter, Olympics!  Maybe they need to change basketball and volleyball to the winter games.  Well, not beach (outdoor) volleyball!

It will be interesting to see if anything happens with this NRA stuff. I doubt it'll make a huge dent since it's backed by big pockets. I've never thought that companies taking away perks would do anything. It just strengthens the base to buy from somewhere else.

I kind of laughed when I heard Trump say that he would run into the building without a gun. I highly doubt he would do so, but it makes for a great sound bite.

I did end up watching more of the Olympics than I thought I would (even though I wasn't going to watch much, so that bar was low). They did have outdoor volleyball by the way. It wasn't quite as fun to see without the women in bikinis. They should definitely move volleyball to winter. Unless they could take a hiatus in the NBA, basketball wouldn't work. Though does the summer games cut into the WNBA season? I guess you would want the larger ratings in the summer games anyways. Were there any Korean games this time around? It seems that there's usually some weird event that only the host plays.

  2. I agree that not much will be done now since high schoolers have no political power or even be able to vote. But they will be the voters and politicians of tomorrow and the consumers. So eventually, if they are angry at the NRA, things will change. The baby boomers who support the NRA will die out eventually. So there is hope for the future.

Yeah, I don't think Trump will run anywhere with his heel spurs or whatever ailment that got him deferments. There was a video I saw where Trump was making a speech and a loud noise boomed in the background and he jumped and looked really scared. He probably peed in his pants that moment. I put him in the same category as Dick Cheney of the people who act tough but are actually cowards.

Most countries don't have a national game in the snow or ice so usually no new sport is added in the winter Olympics just for the host country. But Beijing is hosting the next games so maybe they will try to get snow ping pong or ice badminton in there. They can also do Kung Fu in the snow since Kung Fu is not in the summer games.
