Boston is out of Olympic bidding. So it is logical that LA will be the U.S. bid for 2024. I think they will have tough competition with Paris, Rome and Hamburg in the ring. So I propose a brand new idea for Olympics. Join hosting with LA and SF. SF was behind Boston and LA when the USOC decided on Boston last time. So I don't think it can win on its own. But I think giving SF some events would make it very interesting. For example: the open swim can be to Alcatraz. Mountain biking can be in the hills of Berkeley. Triathlon near the Golden Gate. An LA Olympic is going to be spread out anyway so why not spread it out 380 miles north? The infrastructure of LA is much better than the Bay area for multiple sports but I think giving SF some events would boost the chance of the U.S. winning the bid.
I think the NFL is right about upholding Brady's suspension. The fact that he destroyed his cell phone right at the time he was supposed to meet investigators make it seem like he had something to hide. I mean if it was pictures of another supermodel then it would have only enhanced his reputation and so it is likely it had something to do with deflategate. So just take the punishment and then come back to prove he is still the best big time qb in the NFL!
Kind of neat idea including the Bay area. It's similar to what China did for the Beijing games. Some of the events were held in Hong Kong which is nowhere near Beijing and some of the soccer events were held in other cities, if I remember correctly.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they can do that with LA's bid. Why not include San Diego as a soccer venue (I know that you are going to say that it didn't bid, but it would only enhance L.A.'s bid, in my opinion)? Do you think they would bring back baseball as one of the home country sports?
Would you be interested in going to the games this time around? I think I would be interested. I really enjoyed going in 1984.
The fact that Brady asked to have his cell phone destroyed is pretty hard to defend. It really makes him look guilty. Would be interesting to see this thing go to court, though I don't know if they could get something done by the end of training camp.

San Diego can be part of the games. But I don't think it would be soccer. LA has much better venues such as the Rose Bowl. Stubhub center and the Colisseum. San Diego would be good for water sports but those would be same as the ones I recommend for SF. I think baseball and softball are coming back already although I don't know if it will be in 2016 or 2020.
ReplyDeleteWhat events did you attend in 1984? I went to gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, baseball, and field hockey. It was fun so I would go in 2024 if it is in LA again providing I still can get around!
My brother and I went to field hockey at ELACC and baseball at Dodger Stadium. I am hoping that he will take me to some more games if the games come back to LA!
ReplyDeleteThe best thing I remembered from baseball in 1984 was the pr announcer introducing a South Korean player named Lee Con Dom. From field hockey I remembered the American goalie was wearing an ice hockey shirt. Everything else was kind of blurry.
ReplyDeleteIt would be fun to go to the Olympics if LA does win the bid. But by then I would be near 70 years old and I might need my much younger brother and sons to help me get into stadiums. Maybe they can order a golf cart to take me around the block from some athletic club to the stadium.
Are the Tigers giving up this season already? I know they are worried about losing Price for nothing. But they are only 3 and half out of second wild card spot although there are several teams in between. But Toronto is the buyer and they are only 1 and half ahead of the Tigers. So Toronto is going for it this season and the Tigers are giving up?
I just found out that Beijing won the Winter games. This is the first time I remember a city hosting both Olympics in such a close time period. Do you remember another city that has done so within 14 years?
ReplyDeleteThe Tigers sure look like they gave up. I was somewhat surprised, since Verlander has looked decent lately and being only 3.5 out. I guess the practical move was to trade Price. I think they didn't want to take the risk of not being able to sign him in the offseason. This way, they'll get some prospects and if it can happen, maybe they'll sign him in free agency if they can afford it.
The head scratcher for me was they traded Soria, who was their only good bullpen guy. It would have been nice to keep him, in case they do make a run. Plus, they got a SS prospect, which makes no sense, since they already have a young SS.
I'm sure you can convince your much younger brother (who sounds like a great guy) to help you around the Olympics. Though he'll probably be old too and will hope that your sons will help him around!
If I remember correctly, I think I also got to see China play basketball at the Forum. I also remember that Tommy Lasorda was the manager of the Italian baseball team and their uniforms looked like the Dodgers.
