In lieu of accomplishing anything legislatively, Trump is trying to destroy accomplishments of past presidents, most notably those of Obama.  From DACA to NAFTA to the Paris accord, Trump is destroying and not offering any better alternatives.  This week he signed executive order that would sabotage  Obamacare but not offering any alternative that economists and health care providers deem workable.  He is also trying to decertify the Iran nuclear deal.  I don't think any of the other countries involved will go along and so we would be the only one putting out sanctions.  Now if you are North Korea, you see that the U.S. would go back on its words, would you negotiate or double your effort to build your nuclear weapons and missiles?

Maybe some people would agree with Trump on all those things I mentioned above.  But unless you live and work in coal country, I don't think you would agree with Trump's elimination of the Clean Power Plan.  He claims that with the elimination of the CPP, coal will make a come back and coal miners will go back to work.  That is absurdly false.  The coal industry is dying not just from the CPP but also because natural gas is cheaper and cleaner.  Trump also wants to provide subsidies for coal.  This is patently stupid.  China has woke up to the fact that pollution from coal is killing its people.  Its solar energy and electrical cars industries are growing faster than any other country and is way ahead of us.  While we are trying to prop up an industry of the 19th century, China is looking ahead to the industries of the 21st century.  This is a mistake by Trump that cannot be refuted.

It'll be interesting to see if any of these executive orders have an effect. I'm hoping that they start some kind of dialogue and that they'll help in the long run. On the surface, you are correct. They all look like steps backward and seem more spiteful than anything else. I did scratch my head when he proclaimed that the health care order would be taking money out of the insurance industry, which to me, seems like a good idea. However, I am skeptical that the insurance industry will suffer. I think that those costs will be passed onto the consumers at some point.

You are right to a point on coal. I am actually shocked that he kept his promise to the coal industry and is actually trying to do something to help it. Though the fact is that coal will not be a major factor in the future, this to me, is more of a band-aid to help these small coal mining towns. Maybe the president is doing this because he intends to run again. Maybe we've underestimated him in keeping campaign promises. When/if he runs again, he can say that he stepped up and tried to help the coal industry, even if it doesn't work.

Personally, I don't think starting up a handful of coal factories will do much to the environment. But the people who are mining it and who run these factories must know, unfortunately, that they're living on borrowed time.

I've missed the first 2 games of the NLCS because they've been hidden on TBS. I don't understand why the ALCS has been easier to find. I was a little concerned that the Dodgers would be without their starting SS, but they seem to have picked things up by winning the first two. Hopefully they can keep it going.

It was good to see Verlander pitch well for the Astros. I still have a hard time thinking of Houston being in the American League. I still don't understand why they switched Houston and Milwaukee.

I see that the Chargers are having a decent season, but aren't drawing many people in their tiny stadium. Do you think they will draw anybody to the new Inglewood facility when it opens? I can see that the Rams might, especially since they seem to be playing better this year and they've always been considered the LA team. But I find it hard to believe that anyone will follow the Chargers in LA.

  2. All the plans the GOP have put up have been worse than Obamacare in terms of covering people and the budget as calculated by economists and the Congressional Budget Office. So Trump's executive orders will make things worse. When everything collapses he will say that it was Obamacare that collapsed, not his orders! So if people don't see that then he gets away with it.

Even if you are not a believer of climate change, if you ever sat behind an idle bus at a traffic light, you will think that we need alternatives to fossil fuels. The same if you live in China. When I first visited LA forty years ago, the smog was so bad I could hardly breath. With improved emission standards, LA's air is much better today. I think China has recognized this and is moving toward clean air energy. People are going to demand clean energy because they don't want to die from air pollution. So coal will never come back and Trump is just dumb.

The playoffs are about pitching. Houston and LA have the best starting pitching so far. I think the Dodgers also have the deepest bullpen so even if Seager is out the rest of the playoffs, the Dodgers should still be the favorites. But baseball playoffs are a crap shoot so who knows?

To bad it took a change of team for Verlander to regain his old self. He is a money pitcher in the playoffs. What did the Tigers get for him?

Pro teams in Southern California will get a following only if they win frequently. The Lakers are favorites even as they have fallen recently because they have won the most. It will be difficult for the Rams and especially the Chargers to win over fans without winning big. The Chargers are only 2-4 after the winning the last two games so I don't see them filling out their 20,000 stadium this season. If the two teams do poorly in the next couple of seasons, even a new stadium will not help them much.

Well, there is a certain sabotage to make Obamacare fail. Instead of improving it, the narrative is to destroy it and whoever is in its path. Like I said before, he seems to be trying to fulfill campaign promises. He's in a no lose situation with his supporters, because he can say that he tried to do his part, but congress failed. Or it is the previous administration's fault.

There's no doubt that coal will never be back to where it was, but I guess if some of these reforms help out the people who were associated with coal, then maybe it's not so bad. But what happens when these jobs don't come back or are lost again? There should be some kind of teaching program to help those that don't have other skills so that they can bounce back into other industries. It's very similar to the situation 10 years ago in Michigan where quite a few auto factory jobs were eliminated. People had to relearn other skills or move. Those that couldn't were left behind.

The Tigers received 3 prospects with a player to be named later (which ironically was yesterday). So they got 4 prospects. I think they were a pitcher, catcher, infielder and outfielder.

The next 2 games will be huge for the Dodgers. I'd like to see them win one of them.

How has Clippers attendance been the last couple of years? I can't believe that they are trying to move. If I remember correctly, the Chargers tickets were the highest in the NFL so it doesn't surprise me that they aren't drawing much, even in a tiny stadium. Seems like they're willing to lose some money to get that bigger payoff when they move into the new stadium. But I would think that they've alienated a lot of people with the move and high ticket prices.
