Once again I show my tremendous ability to forecast football results by predicting that the Big Ten will win 3 bowl games this postseason. I don't know why I said they will go 3-4 even though they played 8 games and I made a prediction on all 8. Anyways I predicted 3 wins and just like last year I got it right on the nose. I know one of you will say that I got Iowa and Wisconsin wrong, but they were both close games and the result could easily have been reversed. New Years day was a pathetic day for the Big Ten as I predicted. But even I couldn't have seen the shellacking that Michigan and MSU got. The Big Ten was lucky to salvage some pride because Ohio State survived a comeback from Arkansas. Jim Harbaugh: We need you to come home!

Congratulations on your forecast. Don't quit your day job!

I went to sleep early thinking OSU had the game in hand. Can't believe they didn't score anymore points. Did they try to sit on the lead?

As far as Jim Harbaugh is concerned, I think his home is NoCal, so expect to see him in SF or Oakland next year.

Though Carolina is an interesting choice, since he will be close to his brother and they'll have the first pick, in which he can pick Luck.

  2. OSU was lucky to win. They got some breaks in the first half with the fumble in the end zone and a throw it up for grabs TD. Arkansas outplayed them in the second half but killed itself with 5-6 drop passes which would have made a difference. I am still not sold on Pryor as a qb.

M needs Harbaugh and Les Miles is not a great second choice, specially since he turned them down 3 years ago. He is poor at managing the clock. And can he still get the players from Florida and Texas once he leaves the area?

To be honest, I don't know why you would want to leave LSU. To me, it's a destination and you don't have an in-state rival to recruit against. Plus you are guaranteed a good recruiting region. Bad side is that the expectations are just as bad if not worse than Michigan.

I guess if you really wanted to be the coach of Michigan, you would take the job. Miles isn't even appreciated down there, so that's another incentive to leave.

Miles does come with baggage, and I'm not convinced he would be a great coach for them.

I'm convinced Harbaugh is not coming to Ann Arbor, and yes, he's a near perfect fit for them. I can't believe that Stanford had such crappy attendance this year. To me, it doesn't show much of a commitment to football there.

Pryor can look great at times and horrible at others. Kind of like Denard Robinson but without the homerun speed and a better arm.

He is smart to stay at OSU another year so that he can refine his skills. Though if he's guaranteed to be an early round pick, he might want to leave early.

I haven't seen much of Cam Newton or Oregon's QB, but both were more impressive. I have no idea if these QBs are that good or if the level of competition was poor.

  4. Unfortunately, you were right. Harbaugh is going to SF. He will meet Pete Carroll two times a year instead of once like before. That will be interesting.

A name that has popped up here is the San Diego State coach, Brady Hoke who was a former assistant at M and coached at Ball State. I know a kid living down the street who is playing at San Diego State right now. His older brother was on my older son's high school team and was a starter on Urban Meyer's Utah team that went undefeated. So if this Hoke guy is hired, I may go talk to those guys' dad and see what they think of Hoke compare to Meyer.

Well, certainly one can't say that Cam Newton piled up statistics against weak teams. He played in the SEC which though overrated by Gary Danielson, is still the top conference. As far as Oregon's qb, Darren Thomas, he is not as big and flashy as Newton but is very good. His competition is not as tough in the Pac 10 but he still beat Stanford and USC very badly. Having said that, either team is beatable. Witness how many close calls Auburn got. They could have easily lost 3 0r 4 games. Oregon almost lost to Cal, which is not a very good team. I think Auburn is more battle tested and Newton is better than Thomas. But I pick Oregon because their qb is not even their best player, the running back is! So Oregon can concentrate on Newton but Auburn certainly cannot concentrate on Thomas.

I've been going back and forth with this game. I tend to think that Auburn is the better team because it plays better defense.

But I can't find myself rooting for Cam Newton so I will probably be rooting for Oregon. On offense they have some dynamic players in the mold of Denard Robinson. Can they take the hits from a big and fast Auburn team?

I don't think the defense in the Pac 10 is any good, though Stanford's defense is pretty good and they put up over 40 on them, so as much as I want to pick against you, I am picking the Ducks. Quack!

Well it's pretty obvious that we should never make a living out of sports prognostication. Though this game still could have swung either way. I admit I fell asleep in the 4th quarter only to wake up as Oregon scored. I fell asleep again thinking the game would go into OT. Then I woke up as the game ended.

I am surprised at how strong Newton is. He is a pretty good passer too. Reminds me a little of Vince Young. It will be interesting to see how he does in the NFL.

Oregon's RB is pretty good. Reminds me of Jahvid Best.
