I always believe that one's moral standing is judged by what he does when nobody is watching and not by what he says. Politicians are often exhibit no. 1 for my point on this. Herman Cain is just the latest one. Newt Gingrich and John Edwards are example of people who talked about morality and then would cheat on their wives while they are dying. A few politicians quote the Bible about the evil of homosexuality and then were caught doing those same acts. The Catholic Church not only have their pedophile priests but also bishops and cardinals who covered up the crime. So whenever someone pontificate about morality, I always react skeptically now. I mean you do not have to memorize the Ten Commandments or have a PhD in ethics to know what is right or wrong. It is doing the right thing when nobody is monitoring you that show what kind of moral you have.

The PSU scandal is latest example where you have to take it with a grain of salt when you listen to morality talk from a figure of authority. Those who worshiped Paterno have found that he is a false idol. I wish that people who tend to pontificate about morality would stop it already. They are almost certain to not meet the standard they set for themselves and others. When the truth comes out they will add hypocrisy to the list of their faults.

I guess the only thing I can really add is that, in my opinion, nobody is perfect. I don't mind it if people strive for perfection, but it's a losing cause.

I personally can't stand people who try to shove their morality down our throats or quote bible verses but then don't walk the walk. I don't know how a guy like Gingrich is even near the top of the GOP nomination.

I am interested in your opinion on Tim Tebow. As a skeptic, I am not sure if I can take this guy seriously or not. I guess it doesn't matter. The thing is, I've been stung by it like everyone else. I'm still trying to get over the Tiger Woods scandal!

  2. My take on Tebow is that he is free to believe whatever he wants and that until there is evidence that he has behaved badly, I respect him. It is not easy to be a straight arrow when you are an athlete unless you play for BYU. Having said that I don't think that God helps anyone win any game or championship as religious people like Tebow proclaims.

In terms of his ability as an NFL QB, everybody either thinks that he will be great because he is 4-1 as a starter so far, or that he will fail miserably because his passing stats are poor. I think that it is too early to tell. He has been lucky so far in winning games but he is only in his second year and during his second year, Aaron Rodgers was sitting on the bench. So I say reserve judgment for a couple of years. If I have to guess, I think he will be similar to Michael Vick, not great but good. He won't run as well as Vick but will be more durable. So if he goes to jail for a couple years maybe he will become a better passer like Vick did!

As far as Tebow goes, and maybe it's the pessimist in me, I just think that his "followers" or dare I say, "disciples" are in for a big fall if this guy ends up not being what he claims to be.

I don't know how he's doing it, but he's been able to will wins out of nowhere and I respect that.

I actually think that Vick is a pretty good player and a game changer. He's better now than he was in Atlanta and as with any running quarterback, has to avoid the big hits to have a long career.

What Tebow does is he runs physically and I think that will wear him down eventually.

I am now interested in who you think will win between Michigan and UCLA in the Maui Classic. Of course, by the time you read this, the game will be over. My pick is Michigan by 8.

  4. I predict that M wins by 16, not by 8 as you predicted! I think everyone who has followed UCLA this year knows that they are underachieving. Their two best players, Nelson and Smith, are not playing well and they have no point guard to replace Malcom Lee. M has the a freshman point guard to soften the loss of Morris. I knew Hardaway would have improved because he gained a lot of experience playing for the U.S. U-19 team this summer.

I assume that you are rooting for PSU this weekend? It is a crazy season such that UCLA still has a chance to win the pac12 with a 6-5 record! Will see how thinks shake out after Sat. I just hope there is no all SEC BCS title game!

I meant that UM would win each half by 8!

This weekend was another reason I do not like these divisions and conference championships. I could have made my plans for Pasadena by now!
