After the Republicans demanded that Obama name an ebola czar, he named Ron Klain to the post.  Klain is not a doctor nor an infectious disease expert so the GOP is complaining about that.  The GOP does complain a lot about anything Obama does.  In this case they do have a point.  At times of crisis you need a voice that the public can have confidence in.  If the leader named to fight the spread of this disease has no medical background, it is hard for the public to feel confident about what he says.

It seems to me we don't need to create a new position to fight ebola.  The surgeon general should be the right person for this.  The problem is we do not have a permanent surgeon general right now.  Obama had nominted Vivek Murthy, an Indian American, to this post in 2013.  Murthy graduated from Yale medical school and is an internist.  He seems to have the academic qualification for the job.  The GOP claimed that he is too young (37 years old).  They do have a point there since most doctors don't get to the peak of their career till at least in their 40's.  But the real reason they would not confirm him is that he was a big supporter of Obama in his campaign and he had come out for ban on assault weapons.  The NRA  come out against him and there are few GOP senators who are not afraid of the NRA.  So his nomination is in limbo and Harry Reid won't bring up the vote unless he thinks he can win, which he cannot at this time.

So it is a hypocritical for the GOP to derail Murthy's nomination and then claim that Obama fails to have a surgeon general.  So Obama should not have nominate an ebola czar with no medical background.  He should have gone on the offensive and dare the Republicans to deny a well qualified physician the post that is so vital at this time.  If the nomination fails, he can call out the GOP during the midterm election.  Then he should name an ebola czar with medical background.

Can't argue too much here. Maybe Obama should have nominated Murthy for ebola czar! I don't get how an lame duck president would even try to get a candidate like Murthy through for Surgeon General anyway. Is it to make the GOP look bad?

Obama is supposed to make it to Michigan to stump for the Governor candidate and the Senator candidate. I sometimes wonder how much of a push he would give to them. With his poll numbers down, I can't imagine he could help.

Hillary came last week and Bill is supposed to stop by soon. I would think that they would give more of a boost.

  2. Well, if Obama was trying to make the GOP look bad, then this is the perfect time to ask for an up or down vote on Murthy. I think he is surprised by how political a nonpolitical appointment can be in this era. I don't think he should have been surprised, however.

I think Obama is no help to most of the democratic candidates by showing up. His strength is in fund raising. He has been in places like New York and California where he is popular and can bring in lots of money. But if he keeps showing up in LA and blocking traffic, he will get much less popular soon!

There is no doubt that the Clintons give the democrats a lot more boost by showing up. Bill, in particular, is a much better politician than Obama. The democrats believe that the 1990s were the best of times and Bill is responsible for that. Also white middle Americans believe that Bill Clinton is much more of a centrist than Obama. I actually don't think that is true but that is what most of the country believes.

I happen to come across DWTS last night while in between watching MNF and WWE RAW. I can't believe that Michael Waltrip got such a high score on his Argentine Tango. I always heard that the kicks had to be quick and precise. And I don't think that his were.

I thought that the girl from Duck Dynasty did a good job. The choreography was quite good, considering the restrictions Ballas had to work with.

So who wins the World Series? I am going with KC. Not a fan of either team, but it'll be nice to see the Royals win for the first time since 85.

  4. Michael Waltrip and Chong get better marks than they deserve from the judges. They and that Jonathan guy are the only ones left who are not good dancers. All the others are pretty good.

I have been wrong about all the playoff series so far. So whatever team I pick will lose. So in the interest of fairness and lack of interest on my part, I am not going to bother picking a team for the World Series.

Who is going to win between M and MSU? I am sure that is a difficult one to predict. Well, actually I am just hoping that Harbaugh gets frustrated and leaves SF and come back home.

Funny you should mention about being wrong about MLB. I have been wrong the whole time too. So, of course, I got last night wrong. I'd like to congratulate the Giants on winning the World Series early!

I don't know if Harbaugh leaves SF. If he does, I can see him going to Oakland or Miami.

I predict that Les Miles will be the next coach at U-M. I would have bet on Nessmier earlier in the season, but the offense has been pretty bad.

As lopsided as this game looks, you can never underestimate rivalry games. Plus, U-M had the bye week to rest up and get healthy. I am interested to see if it was enough time.
