Just last week I was talking to my brother in law about deflategate.   I said even though the report was kind of wishy washy,  I believe that New England did deflate the balls and that Tom Brady had to know about it.  After all, the person who would benefit from this would have to be Brady.  There was no reason for the Patriots employees to do this if Brady did not want it.  So I propose that Brady be suspended for 4 games.  Today it was announced that Brady will be suspended 4 games.  There were also draft choices lost and a million dollar fine.  But obviously the most important is Brady's suspension.  I thought 4 games would be a big punishment because with no experienced back up, I think that there will be a 2-3 games swing as a result of this.  So when Brady comes back they may have a difficult time making up the standings in the remaining 12 weeks.  They may not make the playoffs as a result of this.

Having handed out the punishment I am waiting to see if they change the ball situation. Why don't they have the same balls for both teams?  Tennis players don't get to use their own balls when they serve.  Pitchers don't have their own balls to throw.  So this can easily have been prevented if both teams use the same balls.

As much as I enjoy seeing Brady suspended, I don't really understand how the NFL can really act on circumstantial evidence, unless it knows more than was given to the public.

It sure does look like Brady is guilty, but who really knows unless the guys that deflated the balls testify that he ordered it to happen. I haven't seen anything where they've implicated him. Am I wrong?

Now, if it can be proven that he did do it, then I think the punishment fits the crime. I was quite surprised that the NFL would suspend one of their top players for more than one or two games.

My solution to this is to not have any restrictions on the balls. Maybe we'll see a little more offense. Or, just have the home team supply the balls and if they doctor them up, it'll just be another home field advantage.

I happened to glance at DWTS last night while looking for the Golden State/Memphis game.

That was one of the better semifinals, I thought. The finals are going to be really good. I'm surprised they let Hough dance. Seems like favoritism since the other guy had to dance the first song. I wonder if he'll be dancing the rest of the way or switching on and off.

  2. I am opposite of LBOAYM on Brady's suspension. I am a fan of Brady and I don't enjoy seeing him get suspended. But I think circumstantial evidence sometimes is enough to convict someone. If this is a criminal trial with a jury then maybe one or more jurors would find reasonable doubt and thus no conviction. But this is like a civil trial where a judge (Goodell) can decide based on likely hood of Brady's guilt. Here we have evidence that the balls were deflated, a Patriot employee took them into a bathroom after the refs had examined them and the only one with the motive to commit the crime is Brady. So even though the report was not very good I think anyone without bias would judge that Brady is guilty.

It can be argued that the suspension is too long. And it maybe decreased on appeal. But remember Terrell Pryor was given 5 games for free tatoos while he was in college! So I don't think 4 games is that bad. One or two games would not affect the Patriots' chances of making the playoffs. Four games and they are going to sweat. I think they deserve to sweat!

I looked at the overview of my blog and I see that there were more views regarding deflategate than the election of our closest ally! Also no comment about the election. Now I understand that DWTS is the favorite show of LBOAYM so he would have to comment on that. But Brady's fate is more important than Cameron's fate? Isn't this a sign of the apocalypse?

I think the sign of the apocalypse is Brady actually being suspended by the NFL. I do believe that had there not been public outcry, that he may not have been suspended at all.

Remember, it took the NFL a long time to suspend Ray Rice. It will be interesting to see if Brady ends up being suspended all 4 games.

I am also shocked that the Patriots were fined $1 million and they lose the 2 draft picks.

I didn't comment on Cameron, since I have no educated thoughts of him or how things are going in the UK. I would be better off talking about Kate Middleton or Pippa!

For the record, I have never said that DWTS was my favorite show! The only reason I bring it up, is because you have mentioned in past blogs about your love of dancing and that you were a big fan of DWTS!

Speaking of DWTS (not my favorite show!), I saw that Hough and Luikin were eliminated and that American Hero Noah Galloway made it to the finals.

As much respect as I have for Galloway, there is no way he deserves to be in the final over Liukin. I really thought that the judges gave him too high of a score the other night, which ended up not offsetting his popular vote.

It's a flawed system, which we've seen over and over. For the few times I've watched, Liukin was probably the best dancer and at least should be in the finals.

I also missed the flagrant 2 foul on Gibson in last night's Chicago/Cleveland game. Did it warrant an ejection? I still haven't seen the highlight.

  4. Well, I think the sign of the apocalypse is that a MSU fan thinks Brady should be exonerated and a Michigan fan thinks that Brady deserves the punishment. Either that or we are both open minded people who are able to examine facts and come up with different opinions than our respective tribes. This is unlike almost all of Boston fans who are furious and almost all of New York fans who are delighted.

Well, every season there is one person who gets to the end who should not be there and someone deserving gets left out. I agree that the vet should not be in the finals but I rather have him there than someone like Sarah Palin's daughter who also did not deserve to be there as a dancer. I think Riker has an unfair advantage being related to the Houghs and already know how to dance. Did you see his younger brother performing yesterday? That is without any lessons! If I am voting, I would vote for Demi's daughter. She is very good and it must be difficult when people comparing you to your mother's looks! Who do you think is going to win?

I saw the Gibson play. The Cleveland guy was on the ground and he put his legs together to hold Gibson for a second or two. When Gibson broke free, he kicked or stomped on the guy. (I can't spell the guy's name) It is hard to know if the Cleveland guy held Gibson's leg on purpose. But regardless, Gibson should not have kick a guy while he is on the floor. So the ejection, I think, is justified. I don't think there should be suspension since it is understandable he got mad for being held. If the league determines that the other guy held Gibson's leg on purpose, he should get fined even though he was not called for a foul on the play. So will see what the league decides.

I think Rumer will win. As I've said before, it is easier for the female to win. I don't recall seeing Riker's brother dance, since I usually don't watch the side acts. I only watch the results and the actual contestants.

Well, I was wrong in my NHL prediction. Montreal was eliminated last night by Tampa Bay, who Detroit took 7 games to.

So I guess I'll root for Tampa, since Steve Yzerman is the president of the club to win it all.
