Joe Biden is being pushed by some of his supporters to run.  They set the deadline of Oct. 1st  because the first Democratic debate is Oct. 13.  It would be difficult to get all ready for a debate in less than two weeks if you have not decided by then.  My feeling is that if he does not decide by Labor Day, I don't think he will run.  With two passed failed attempts, the unpopularity of Obama generally, and the recent loss of his son, I don't think he has the stomach to do it.

If Hillary fails, how about Al Gore?  I do think that is a good possibility if the Democrats are desperate.  I think a lot of people think he got robbed the last time and wished that he would have become president instead of Bush.  So they may vote for him as a compensation.  He can also point out that he was an integral part of the Clinton administration that had a budget surplus.  In other words he can claim he is Bill second without the scandal!  I don't think he wants to run but he would be a good plan B for the Democrats.

Funny you should mention Gore. I saw his name come up as another candidate this weekend and couldn't believe it. Gotta think he has no desire to run again since so much time has passed. He should have run again in after losing to Bush the first time.

Don't get me wrong. I am a big Al Gore supporter. I don't agree with him on everything, but I was behind him running back in 1988 even though he didn't get the nomination. I think it was Dukakis who got the nomination. Interestingly, I voted for Bush Sr. then, proving that I am not bought and paid for by any political party!

If Biden ends up running and not Clinton, I think the election will be very close. I'm not sure if Biden is electable.

  2. Well, whether Biden or Gore is electable depends on who the GOP nominate. The Democrats have a thin bench but the GOP Has a long bench with players who don't belong. So basically I am not looking forward to this election.

Trump once again look foolish with his so called immigration plan. So he says he will take away citizenship of those born in the U.S. but have illegal immigrant parents. I did not know that he can single handily change the constitution! He is going to build a complete wall and have Mexico pay for it! I guess that is possible since Iran was able to get rid of Saddam Hussein and had Bush paid for it!

Finally he will deport every illegal immigrant in the country! It will take 100-200 billion dollars but we will get all those jobs back that Americans wanted but been stolen by illegal immigrants! Instead rounding up millions of people I think we can have the same effect by jailing the business owners who hired illegals. But it is easier to make villains of those who risk their lives to work at horrible jobs to support their families than to make villains of those business owners who contribute to the politicians.

Well, people need to take what Trump says with a grain of salt. He can talk the talk but if he's elected, no way he can change how government works. So, yeah he can claim he'll do all of these things to get people excited, but he won't be able to deliver in the real world.

Now, the one thing I would be in favor for (only for economic reasons) is to build a wall. This would create jobs and give a sense that something is being done. But you know that immigrants will still try to find a way to get over!

I think Gore is electable. He's been out of politics for a while now and I think people like him. But I really think he likes to be in the private sector and wouldn't run. So that leaves Biden if not Clinton.

So does Biden beat Trump (as a third party participant) and Bush? I have a feeling we will see Ben Carson get a big push soon. Though I doubt he would win in the general election. He's been spewing a lot of what the Tea Party likes to hear and being black, I can see a lot of republicans try to nominate him.

  4. Well, every time Trump says something ridiculous his poll numbers go up. So I guess a lot of people don't take what he says with a grain of salt. So maybe he will do a lot better at the end of the process than I expected. But there are well over 400 days yet till election!

I agree that keep building a bigger and bigger wall will have an economic impact. But in the hot Texas sun who would do the job? Maybe Trump will have to hire illegal immigrants? Speaking of economic impact, Trump is willing to spend 1 billion to get elected. That in itself is a good reason to hope he stays in the race! For all the craziness the election cycle brings, it does stimulate the economy. Since the richest people put up the most money, the GOP and the Democrats are doing their part to redistribute the wealth!

On another topic: Why does deflategate gets to court so fast. Why are there people sitting in jail for months or years awaiting trial and Brady's 4 game suspension jump right to the front? Frankly I don't care who comes out ahead. It is not life and death and certainly a waste of taxpayers' money for this to go to court.

Good question regarding deflategate. Though I find it amusing that there is no verdict yet.

So we both lose on the Dave Dombrowski bet. Boston is a good place for him to wind up. It'll be interesting to see how he does there.

As far as the wall goes, it doesn't matter who builds it. Let's let the process work out and see what the cheapest cost could be. Then we'll find out who wants illegals to do it!

By the way, did you hear that Michelle Bachman said that a wall could be built because China built one 5,000 years ago and China had no problems with illegal immigrants from Mexico coming in? I really hope it wasn't a real quote!

  6. Dombrowski threw everyone a curve ball. I just hoped he doesn't come back to haunt the Tigers. Boston is a deep pocket franchise, I think he will do well there. They have nowhere but to go up given the season they've had.

I don't know if Backmann was joking or someone put it out there as a joke on her but I don't think even she can say something like that in a serious manner. Now, of course, the Great Wall failed miserably in the attempt to keep out the Mongolians. And a wall now a days will not solve the illegal immigrant problem. The Pacific ocean has not kept out illegal immigrants from China. The Atlantic ocean did not keep out illegal Irish and Italians when those counties were in bad shape economically. So a wall will not keep out Mexicans and Central Americans who are desperate.
