The Olympics have somewhat overshadowed the election campaign here in the U.S.  But Hope Solo;s remarks after the U.S. women's soccer team lost to Sweden on penalty kicks reminds me of Donald Trump.  Solo complained that the Swedes played like cowards.  Trump complained that if he was to lose in Pennsylvania, the election must be rigged.  Both are such sour grapes.  The Swedes played the way an underdog was supposed to play.  The U.S. was a better team and the only way Sweden had a chance was to play defensively.  This is the strategy any soccer team would use when facing a team with superior talent.  There is nothing cowardly about it.

Trump is complaining about rigged election even before the election.  There is no evidence of that and he seems to be preparing for excuses before hand.  Both Solo and Trump are like spoil children who whine when thing don't go their way.  They are extremely poor representatives of America.  Hope Solo was reprimanded twice in the past, once for complaining about the coach not playing her and then worse yet the second time for domestic violence.  It is time to leave her off the national team.  Of course Solo is only an athlete.  But Trump is running to be the leader of the free world.  We cannot let that happen.

Did anyone notice all those round dark marks on Michael Phelph's arms and shoulders.  Those are cupping marks.  They are suddenly popular with western athletes as a treatment for sore muscles.  This is a treatment from Chinese medicine.  I am glad it is being recognized as an effective treatment.  Ironically, I didn't see any of the Chinese athletes using it in Rio.  Given the U.S. has a big lead in medal counts, maybe China should have a taste of its own medicine!

The fact that Trump is saying that the election is rigged to me, is a desperate move. His camp must be looking at the numbers and they're in a panic right now. No way you say that if you think you're going to win. So by doing this, he's already making an excuse that he'll lose and at the same time, trying to rally people who don't want Clinton to win.

How much longer do we have to deal with Hope Solo? She's the best goaltender the U.S. has ever had and probably will be better than anyone that's coming up. It's obvious that she has some mental problems. I wonder what her teammates think of her. They've put up a good front so far, though I wonder if the younger players are just being quiet. Eventually, Solo will lose her friends from the team as they get older. Just a dumb and classless way of handling things, especially since they lost to their former coach. Though I wonder how bad the feelings are between the U.S. team and their former coach are. I thought they were pretty cordial during the World Cup.

I wonder if there will be a huge boom in cupping procedures now that members of Team USA started using the method. I wouldn't mind giving it a try. What about you?

You are so right about maybe China should have used it. Though maybe it says something that they didn't bother with it. If I remember correctly, at one of the Olympic games a while back, there were reports that some of the athletes were using different medicines and foods while training. I have no idea if any of those things worked or they're still doing it now.

I just heard today that there was MMA in the Olympics? Is this true? I'm surprised that they had this considering that a couple of professionals were fighting.

  2. There will probably be some interest in cupping among the general population but I am not sure if it will be a boom. The patches the athletes wear has been around since at least the last Olympiad but I don't see many weekend warriors using them. I don't think cupping will be as popular as patches since you have to go to someone with some healthcare training to get it done. Plus I think it hurts, although not terrible. I would consider trying it.

I don't think there is MMA in the Olympic nor has it been voted in. I think it would be difficult to fight 4 bouts in 2 weeks for MMA. It seems tougher to do than boxing. Frankly there are too many fighting sports already with boxing, Tae Kwon Do, Judo, wrestling and now Karate being added in Tokyo. MMA might have a chance in the future if the IOC wants to get more young people to watch. That is why they added skateboarding to the next Olympic. Again that is a sport that is played by rich western nations. I think they should find some sports that are played in the streets of Africa or Southeast Asia to add to the program. But at least I am glad that Fiji won rugby!

I was fooled by a Sports Illustrated article on MMA. I didn't realize it was a fake article, since I missed the one sentence in the beginning!
