If I am a Mexican all I am thinking today is that the U.S.is a bully and our own president is weak to kowtow to the bully.  If the most powerful country in the world cannot keep people from entering its country, why is it that poor Mexico will be able to stop people from Central America to come into Mexico and eventually make their way to the U.S.?  We have limited resources to serve our own interests and now we have to do the job for the rich Americans to bar others from entering their country?   If we don't do it we are slapped with tariffs that will choke our economy?

The American appetite for illegal drugs make it very profitable for Mexicans to form drug cartels to sell to the Americans.  Remember, when there is a demand, there will a supply.  Having form drug cartels, there will be a need for weapons to fight each other for territory.  The U.S. is happy to supply the heavy weapons.  When there is a demand, there will be a supply.  So with all these powerful weapons, our law enforcement agencies are stressed to the limit.  Now we have to take resources from these agencies to help America protect its border?

Our president agreed to Trump's demands because he is weak.  But he also doesn't have a lot of choices.  We are dependent to America.  The U.S. can destroy our economy with some tolerable pain to its own economy.  Of course, our government may not really comply with what Trump wants.  We just pretend to agree.  Nothing much will really change.  I guess Trump likes to create a crisis and bully someone for an agreement that means nothing but then he can claim victory to his base.

So Trump gets what he wanted for now with Mexico.  He may get something similar from China to avoid an all out trade war.  But I am not sure.  He may get some meaningless concession and then claim victory.  China, for sure, will not agree to anything that will even look humiliating to it.  China had its recent history of humiliation.  The reason Xi Jinping has accumulated so much power is because he promises the Chinese that humiliation will never happen again.  And all the Chinese who know about history agree with him.  So Trump will not get anywhere by trying to bully China.  This will not resolve like it did with Mexico.

I am very surprised by the demonstrations in Hong Kong.  I heard of the law that is the cause but it didn't seem like it would be such a big thing for most people in Hong Kong.  There is a second reading of the law on Wednesday.  I will need to look closer at the law and see how the Hong Kong people react after that.

I was confused when I read your blog for a second, but then realized you were talking as a Mexican. Didn't this Mexican president just get elected? Do you think anything would be different if Fox was still in charge?

I can see what you're saying that the Mexicans have no choice due to economics but they might and probably will stall as long as they can until the election. I would think that it has to be an economic burden for the Mexicans who have all these migrants as well. Maybe there should be an incentive for them to keep them out of their country as well? Maybe instead of spending all this money on a wall, the money can be used to uplift other countries so that there is no need for people to leave their countries. Just an idea.

  2. Fox has not been president for a long time. The last president was Nieto who is a handsome young guy, Mexico's answer to Trudeau of Canada. So Trump doesn't like guys who are better looking than him (who isn't?) and more popular. Fox was an extreme critic of Trump's idea of Mexico paying for the wall and said so in salty language. Nieto was more careful since he had was in office and can't anger the powerful neighbor. But he was certainly tougher than Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO), the guy in office now.

AMLO is a socialist. But he has characteristic similar to Trump. He promises things like increase social programs but not increasing taxes. He wants to increase the production of the oil industry, like Trump wants to increase coal production. As mayor of Mexico city, he hired Rudy Giuliani as consultant to crime! He also campaigned to improve NAFTA, saying in hurts Mexico. So I think he and Trump may both pretend to negotiate and then announce agreements been made and claim victory.

I agree the best way to decrease illegal immigration is to uplift other countries, not doing stupid things like building walls. NAFTA helped Mexico so now there are much less Mexicans crossing the border illegally. But Trump is decreasing aid to Central America as a punishment for letting people out! It would have the opposite effect. The same with trying to screw the Mexican economy. I think even most of the GOP know that but Trump doesn't listen.

Oh I know that Fox is not the president but I think he remains the most popular and outspoken leader or ex leader it has. I just think maybe things may have played differently if he were still in office. There's a lot of spinning on both sides regarding this agreement and for some reason, it doesn't pass the smell test. I guess we'll see if things actually get better at the border. I read somewhere that they are putting some of the children in an old camp used during WWII. I am surprised these camps were not decommissioned and turned into museums.

Great effort by Golden State but Toronto was too tough and made the plays when they had to. It'll be interesting to see who wins the west next year. Some of the young players on the Warriors showed up but I'm not sure if they are quality starters yet. Maybe they will pick someone up at the draft that will be able to contribute.

If Leonard stays, Toronto has a good chance of repeating. The east is as tough as ever but they have a good core and system. If the owner of Houston doesn't split up his team, I can see the opening now for them to get to the finals.
