Ahmaud Arbery, a young black man who was running on a Georgia road, was gunned down by two white men. The two men were arrested after over two months. They claimed that they thought Arbery was connected with crimes in the area and they were making a citizen's arrest. That is totally
BS. They had not witness him committing a crime so they should not be making any arrest. If they thought he was a criminal, and they had him in sight while he is on feet and they are in a truck, why didn't they just call 911?
The truth is these citizen arrest laws and stand your ground laws are just justifications for white people to kill black men. Can you imagine a black guy using citizen arrest law to justify killing a white guy in the streets? I am not going to be politically correct here. I don't see a white man confronting a young black man in the streets if the white man was not armed. Or if there are at least two white men against one black man. In this case, both are true. Two white men with guns against an unarmed black man. There is no justification for this act and yet the lawyers for these two will argue, I am sure, using the citizens arrest law.
It is time to get rid of these laws. These laws are relics of the past when there was no fast police car response and 911. Despite the outrage of the public and obvious hate crime tone to this event, there is a good chance that these two men will get away with it, using an unfair law. If you don't believe this law and those stand your ground laws are not biased heavily in favor of white men, just remember Treyvon Martin.
I wonder what kind of gun law there is in Georgia. Of course this type of stuff doesn't surprise me in the south. I just wonder what kind of person or people follow someone and shoot them with looked like a shotgun. This is like old west justice. They claim they were making a citizens arrest but instead of calling the police and holding him down, just gunned this man down. There was no process of asking him questions or anything.
ReplyDeleteWe see African American men treated like this all the time. I just saw a clip of a man who was stopped by police. He cooperated with them and was then handcuffed and beaten by the cop while his partner watched. I wonder if there was vest cam footage. Luckily, it was all filmed from across the street where the cops didn't even see the person recording.
You brought up the role reversal thing. That reminded me of when there were protests at the Michigan Capitol building and these armed white men barged inside to try to get access to the chambers. Can you imagine if armed black men tried that? I am sure the cops would not have let that happen. But you see the cops hold restraint when the white "patriots" were around. Then we saw this week that 2 of the cops posed for a picture with one of these guys.
Speaking of stand your ground, we have been told before that what happened to Treyvon Martin was because of the law. I heard today that former Laker Shannon Brown was in his home and someone entered it. He apparently shot at the people and was arrested. How is it that a man in his own home could be arrested? Now, I admit the whole story hasn't come out, but this doesn't make any sense. Keep in mind this was in Georgia!

Given the widespread of cameras now a days, there are still cops who rough up or kill blacks. I wonder what happened back when nobody had a camera to record anything? Cops, like almost any other group, has bad ones and good ones. But the bad ones has weapons that can be legally used which make them more dangerous. That is why you can't say the good guys can have guns. One of Arbery's killer was a former cop. An off duty cop in California just recently killed someone who was autistic in a market and shot his parents also.
DeleteI have not read the Shannon Brown case. It will be interesting how that comes out. On the surface it would seem that if someone went inside your house, you would feel more threaten than if YOU are the one chasing him in a truck with another person.
