Shortly after Jan.6 last year, I thought that the power Trump over the Republican party was over.  When Republican members of Congress were scared stiff from the riot and leaders such as Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McConnell said that Trump was responsible, you would think that the Trump era was over.  Now a year later, claims of election fraud continues, Republicans are saying that it was not a riot at all.  Nobody from the Republican side, except for a few people like Liz Cheney, mention that Trump is at fault for the insurrection.  Nothing from McCarthy and McConnell.

Only Liz Cheney and her father Dick Cheney among Republicans showed up to honor the Capitol police and remember the day.  Nothing from Mitt Romney.  Nothing from Mike Pence whom the rioters want to hang.  The prospect of elections not certified or riots post election are as real today or even more so compared to last year.  Our democracy is in big danger.  If we don't have peaceful transfer of power, do we really have a democracy?

It's unfortunate that the Republicans are still bowing down to Trump. They fear that they will not win their elections if they go against him and his followers. It's hard to believe that there are that many people who back him, but from recent polls, it sounds like a majority of Republicans think the way that Trump does. The same poll shows that they think the riot at the Capitol was a peaceful protest. This is the same type of thinking that will be hard to overcome. You'd figure Romney wouldn't care since he has all this money but apparently he wants the power. They had Cruz backpeddling on Fox this week as well.

The mid terms don't look good for the Democrats so does that mean that Biden is a lame duck?

Found this article about Chinese men that were deported after WWII from Britain. It's a good read and something that I never knew about.

  2. Very interesting article. I had not heard of this story. interestingly, Liverpool is a city well known by the people of HK. This maybe due to the Beatles, Gerry and the Pacemakers and its soccer team. There is this romantic image of this British city of blue collar workers who represent what is great of the UK in Hong Kong. I am sure none of this is known in HK. I mean, even the Opium War and how HK became a British colony was sort of glossed over in HK education system. I am not saying that the British are worse people than others but they had the power. As I always say: Those who have the power tend to abuse it.

The worst thing about this whole thing to me is that all those wives and children that were left behind. They thought that their husbands and fathers had abandoned them. That is just the worst crime of this forced deportation.
