I was feeling sorry for my fellow angry males recently. By that I mean I can understand the frustration of the angry white males. If the number one guy representing you is George Bush you certainly deserve the sympathy from us minorities. Most of you are probably looking forward to 2008 when you can vote in a WASP that is more representative of your people's ability to run the free world. Then you realize that since everybody who is not a Republican is going to vote Democrat in 2008 you decide to see who among the Democrats will be our next president. Lo and behold, the front runners are a female whom even a sex addict like Bill Clinton doesn't like to sleep with, and a black guy with a middle name Hussein. All of a sudden the white males are underdogs in trying to win the Democratic nomination! John Edwards? The only thing he has going for him is youth and charisma; the same advantage Obama has. While Obama will carry his state in the general election, Edwards probably will not. This white guy can't even claim to have more experience than the inexperience black guy, the usual justification for the glass ceiling. My fellow angry males of the lighter persuasion may not run the free world after 2008!

Worse for the white guys than losing the presidency of the United States is the fact that they are losing something more important. I mean the Super Bowl. Both coaches in the Super Bowl this year are black. The myth of the intelligent white guy is gone. Pretty soon you are going to tell me that they are not going to dominate golf. Oops, there is that Tiger fellow. O.K. NASCAR will be forever white and male. At least until Danica Patrick decides to swith from Indy racing.

So I do feel sorry for the white male. But not too much. The yellow man still has it worse. The Oakland Raiders just hired Lane Kiffin to be their new head coach. This is a 31 year old white guy who had no previous head coaching experience at any level. He was the understudy to Norm Chow till Chow left USC. You can't tell me he is a better candidate than Chow who was taking BYU's passing game to a level that it had not seen before or since when Kiffin was in middle school. Chow was passed over to reunite with Matt Leinart at Arizona. He was passed over by Stanford a few years ago with the job going to a guy who won one game for Stanford this year. You can't tell me Chow couldn't have done better. So now Stanford has hired Jim Harbaugh who cannot hold Chow's jock strap as an offensive innovator. Stanford and the Raiders are both in the Bay area so it would not be a bad idea to hire a qualified Asian to run their teams. The Raiders has the chance to draft Brady Quinn or Jamarcus Russsel this year. Who would be the best person to develop these quarterbacks? Last year it was the consensus of every expert that while Vince Young was the better athlete, Matt Leinart was way more ready to play quarterback in the NFL right away. Yet under Chow's training, Young was by far the better quarterback of the two in their rookie year. That can't be due to athletic ability alone. So you tell me why Al Davis chose a young guy with limited experience over Chow. It probably is not racial because Davis had hired Art Shell before, twice. But if Chow was black there would be an outcry for him not being a head coach a long time ago. Davis can't justify hiring Kiffin and not even considered Chow unless he has changed the Raider's motto from "Just win, baby" to "Just win with a baby".

The Kiffin hiring has me angry as well. I don't understand how people can rationalize minorities not getting HC gigs stating because they don't have experience then act like nothing is going on when white guys with no experience like Kiffin get handed a HC gig.

This hiring especially gets me all angry inside. It was obvious that Al Davis wanted the USC offense. Sarkisian was the front runner from the begining and when he smartly turned them down he went and got Kiffin. Did he ever think of hiring the guy who created the USC offense, Norm Chow? The Raiders most likely are going to draft a QB with the 1st pick, maybe they should have gotten a HC with a record of developing QBs. Someone like Norm Chow?

I could understand if they contacted Chow and he said he wasn't interested, but this is competely different. The Raiders started their search and identified Sarkisian then they quickly brought in Loft a WR coach for San Diego who is African American to interview. This fulfilled the Rooney rule, but when was the last time who saw a positions coach get a HC gig in the NFL? I know that there is a list of qualified minority OCs/DCs in the league. What good is the Rooney rule if teams are going to interview candidates that maybe lack experience or are underqualified only to turn around and say they didn't hire them because they lack experience or are underqualified, but can still say they fulfilled the Rooney rule? The first thing the Cowboys did after Parcells retired was to interview a position coach on the staff who is African American. Well, we know he's not getting the gig, but now we know that Rooney rule has been fulfilled and that Jerry Jones can now go after that white retread HC. What a joke.

A note on the latest Stanford hiring:

Chow was approached about the opening and told them to go to hell and rightfully so. I read a recent interview with Chow where he said that when he interviewed with Stanford they told him afterwards that they had one more interview, but they were going to offer the job to him and to start thinking of his staff. He never heard from them again and Harris was annouced as HC.

He also mentioned that althought there were rumors of him being HC at NC St and ASU, NC St never contacted him and someone from ASU approached him unannouced after a Titans game and spoke to him for 2 minutes and that was it.

It makes me upset that people try to knock him like he doesn't interview well, when in reality he doesn't even get interviews. Now they say he's too old. well, if the Cowboys hire Norv Turner (5 years younger than Chow) as speculated who is going to say he is too old? I am sick and tired of people inventing these excuses. If Norm Chow was a white guy who didn't speak with a little hint of a Pacific Islander accent he would have been a HC a long time ago.

Great blog this time around. It was almost like reading Andy Rooney without the whining.

I am still not convinced the democrats are doing the right thing. I'd be interested to see a poll on a Clinton/McCain election. I simply don't think she would win.

Sure Obama is a sexy pick. He's like the flavor of the month, but really, the guy is not experienced.

Is there no one in the democrat party that is electable? Where is Al Gore these days? I would bet that he would win in a landslide. His popularity has to be at an all-time high.

Looks like Guiliani is going to make a run for the GOP nomination. I don't know how well he would do in the south, but against a minority and a woman, who knows?

Onto the subject of Norm Chow. I feel for him. Though I must admit that when one is looking to hire a new coach, I think youth is the trend. I still think Chow has a few good years left and there's no doubt that he's an offensive genius, but is he an ideal candidate? The Oakland Raiders, my favorite football team, has been shooting itself in the foot for years now. It is extremely frustrating to see Al Davis ruin it with old time principles. Te Kiffin hiring is another that makes me scratch my head. It is basically a stab in the dark and I hope it works out. Would Norm Chow have done a better job? I would think so, but Davis has always wanted a young coach, and it's always seemed to work, so I hope this hire works.
As much as I wish Chow would get a head coaching job, I don't think it will ever happen. His age is a huge factor. He would never make it in the college level because of the year-round recruiting. I had hoped that my alma-mater would interview him, but never did.
And who would take the chance in the NFL? Arizona would have been the best shot and yet he didn't get the job. Maybe he could get a job at one of the smaller D1 schools but I don't think they could pay him the amount of money he is making now. Unfortunately for Norm Chow, I think he's about 10-20 years too late.
