Sharon Angle, who is running for the Senate against Harry Reid in Nevada, said recently that Dearborn Mich. is under Sharia law. I am pretty sure that if that was really the case, it would be all over the news nationally and my relatives in Michigan would have called me about it. So for her to make up something like that shows not only dishonesty but also stupidity. I don't like Harry Reid but it is mind boggling that she is ahead in Nevada.
The idea that a religion is going to take over this country is actually not new. Early in the last century it was thought that Catholics were not patriotic and that they answered to the Pope, not to our government. Even when John Kennedy ran for president decades later, he had to proclaim that he was American first and that his religion would not determine how he would govern. Obviously those fears were unfounded. I think the more people who subscribe to Angle's view, the easier it will be for the extremists to recruit for their cause and thus make us all less safe.
I would reply to your blog, but all internet communication is being sensored due to Sharia law here in Michigan.
ReplyDeleteI can tell you this. There is a lot of hate here in Michigan. If you listen to talk radio, which I have had the unfortunate luck to, you will hear about how Dearborn is under Sharia and that non-Muslims are being forced to not go there.
There was a report of people being arrested at a rally earlier this year who were trying to spread the word of Jesus (ie anti-Muslim).
Well, the police claim they were disturbing the peace but there are people who say they were arrested because of Sharia law. These same people claim that they were treated like they were in another country instead of being able to practice free speech. Therefore, the Muslims in Dearborn are controlling the government there.
These same people claim that the Muslims had held rallies against the U.S. a few years ago but were debunked when it turned out to be a celebration when Sadaam Hussein was captured.
Take it for what it's worth, but this country has not learned from its own history of hate.
You talk about Catholics but what about the Japanese in WWII? Don't even get me started on the Chinese during the 1800s.

I talked about Catholics because this involves religious bigotry just like with Muslims. And Catholics are Christians just like the Protestant majority. Obviously every racial and ethnic group had been discriminated at one time or another. Yes, given all these lessons, there is still a lot of hatred in this country. Obviously you can expect that there will be always some people whose prejudice knows no bound. But what gets me upset is that Angle can very well be a U.S. Senator and she comes out with lies like this to get more vote.
ReplyDeleteAs I said before, I don't like Reid either. In an ad to show that he is tough on immigration, the commercial showed criminally looking Hispanics sneaking across the border. This is not only poor taste for a Democrat but is stupid also. I am sure he won't get many more Republican or independent votes with this ad but will probably cause quite a few Latinos not to got to the poll. The only good thing for people in Nevada is that they have a choice of "none of the above" on the ballot. I bet "none" gets a new record number of votes.
Oh yeah, I totally agree with what you're saying. I've never been a fan of Reid's but then again, I don't think I'm a fan of any politician.
ReplyDeleteWhat irks me is this need for people to vote for change. Do people really support what Angle's policies are?
Do people really just believe what a candidate says?
Sadly, I think that is the case and I hope I'm wrong because we are bound to get some new people in congress who don't know what they're doing and the only reason why they were in office in the first place was because of their lies.
Looking forward to hearing what you have to say about the firing of Mr. Juan from NPR!
