Been on vacation then away for Labor Day weekend.  Finally caught up with all the work.  Have not been reading and watching the news carefully in these past couple of weeks.  But it is obvious the ISIS and Ukraine situations are getting worse.  There are no good solutions out there.  So I don't blame Obama for not coming up with any great plans.  But I think he has made a lot of mistake in at least public perceptions.  For example, going golfing after the conference about Foley's beheading.  Also having leaked that the administration have no plan yet against ISIS was politically inept.  When there are no good solutions, at least act and talk tough but offer no specifics that can come back to haunt you, such as Assad's use of chemical weapons as the red line.  Look, nobody wants to send troops to Iraq and Ukraine.  So none of the hawks have a legitimate idea either.  For now, continue air power and send weapons.

Nishikori vs Cilic?  Whoever made a bet on this daily double can plan for retirement.  Or he may be investigated for blackmailing Djokovic and Federer.

Can the Big Ten play any worse?

Yeah, I've been disappointed with Obama's PR on a lot of this stuff. I don't know if his handlers are just inept or they just don't care.

Maybe it's both. Who knows. Things could get far worse anyway but he's gotta make a decision sooner than later.

I think being a part of the summit helped a bit, by showing a united front and he did have a speech where he talked tough.

I didn't watch one minute of the US Open this year, though I was pleasantly surprised that Nishikori made it to the final.

I don't understand the women's side. Seems like Williams is the top player but then she plays like crap out of the blue. But when she's on top of her game, there's no one better.

I keep thinking that her game is on the way down, but there's no one to really challenge her.

Tough weekend for the Big Ten. Can't say much about it. It'll be interesting to see how the teams are at the end of the year. It's too early to panic.

  2. Obama needs a big speech tomorrow even if he got no great solutions. He can say something like ISIS will meet the same fate as bin Laden. NATO is of no help even though both ISIS and Ukraine affect Europe more than us.

I thought Cal has improved greatly when they beat NW. But then so can N. Illinois! MSU and Wisconsin may still make it to a big bowl but I don't see any playoff chances for the Big Ten.

At least the Lions look good. But I think the Giants are awful!
