Forty seven GOP senators wrote to the ayatollah of Iran telling him that any nuclear deal made by Obama will be cancelled with the election of a new president.  I think it is safe to say that the negotiators from Iran have a very good understanding of how our government works.  I am sure they know the party of the current president may not be in power in 2017.  They also know about the difference between a treaty which needs the approval of the senate and an executive agreement.  So I don't think that Iran will stop negotiating after reading this letter.

But the letter is stupid in that gives the advantage to Iran.  Now if the negotiation breaks down, Iran can blame the Americans because the U.S. government as represented by these senators are going to go back on any deal.  Sure, the agreement may be a bad one and Iran can cheat after making the agreement.  But we can always restart sanctions if Iran does not keep their end of the bargain.  And what is the alternative?  Bomb Iran on behalf of Israel?  Israel is perfectly capable of doing that herself.  But it will only delay and not stop Iran from building the bomb.  If negotiation completely fails, can we count on our allies to continue sanction if it appears people in our own government is sabotaging the effort.

In two days Israel will have their election.  Netanyahu's speech to Congress at the invitation of GOP was a political move by him and his hosts.  We will see if the citizens of Israel agree with them.

Lucky I read your blog, because I would not have known that Netanyahu was up for re-election. So this makes things a little more clear as to why he came here a couple of weeks ago.

I'm a little shocked that some senators would go out of their way to break etiquette, and 1) invite Netanyahu to speak and 2) write a letter to the ayatollah. It seems to me that the letter was in reaction to Netanyahu being here.

Listen, I recognize Israel as one of our biggest allies. I don't think it's a secret that Obama and Netanyahu don't agree eye to eye on certain things. But if there is ever a chance for peace, I would take that route over politics any day.

Netanyahu is doing what he thinks is right for Israel and to also get re-elected. It'll be interesting to see if his fear-causing methods will help or hurt his chances.

I heard that DWTS is on tonight. I might try to watch but I guess I'll have to check your blog to see your thoughts, so that I am up to date!

  2. The GOP wants more sanctions and not a deal. If they get their way, Iran will respond by speeding up their process of getting the bomb. And if it appears to rest of the world that the U.S. don't want a deal, then international sanctions will possibly collapse. Certainly, China and Russia will be against sanctions. I am not sure what other nations will tighten the screw against Iran if the talks failed. Then bombing will be the only option. I don't think Obama would do that. What about Netanyahu?

Speaking of Netanyahu. On the eve of election he has come out to say that under his watch, there will not be a Palestinian state. Since it is always the position of the U.S. that a two state solution is the only logical way to peace, Netanyahu is risking even higher confrontation with Obama in his reelection bid.

I will be watching the Lakers vs Warriors game tonight. So I am counting on LBOAYM to fill me in with the details of what happens in DWTS since this is his favorite show.

Well, lucky for you, I had been switching channels and happened to come across DWTS. They were showing Charlotte McKinney, so I had to watch.

I would like it, if she were to make it far in the show, just so I could see her every week. But, I predict that she will be the first one to be voted out.

It looks like a good amount of the dancers are lumped in one big group, so it will come down to the popularity portion of the show.

There are 2 that stand out. Derek Hough and his partner and Val and his partner. These two pairs will fight it out I think. It'll be interesting to see if Rumer Willis, Val's partner, can keep it together. She seems a little unstable mentally and I think that might hurt her as we get closer to the finals.

Michael Sams looks to be good. But he's a step under the other two. A dark horse I see is this Ryker guy. He's already an entertainer and he's second cousins to the Houghs. It will be interesting to see if he has dance ability genes.

So by the time you read this, the elections in Israel will be over. It'll be interesting to see what happens. I don't fully understand how things work there. I thought I read somewhere that Netanyahu would still be the leader of his party if he would lose?

It also sounds like his party is like the Tea Party here.

So I can't make an educated statement on Israeli politics and I don't know if the things Netanyahu says are what anyone should believe. He sounds a lot like a politician and would say anything to win.

I don't like the non-peaceful talk he's been spewing and I do think that there should be a Palestinian state.

As I always say. I am for peace more than war.

Oh and getting back to DWTS, there is a contestant who is a Vet named Noah Galloway. He lost part of his arm and leg during combat. This guy is an American hero. He seems really humble and I applaud him. I don't know how far he will go. If judged correctly, I don't know how he will be able to advance very far. He doesn't have a left arm, so it'll be interesting to see how he leads and with the way his leg is, some of the moves will be very difficult.

I haven't done my NCAA brackets yet. I'll try to do them by Wednesday night and write them on your blog.

I got a chance to do a quick bracket and have a Final Four of:

    Kentucky (no surprise here)
    Arizona
    Virginia
    SMU (out of nowhere)

SMU gets to play potentially UCLA, Iowa State, Gonzaga and Duke. They will have a good fan base if they get to Houston where the regional is. Gonzaga is over rated and won't get past the Sweet 16 again. I also think Duke is over rated.

I think Virginia's scheme will cause problems for Villanova. I was really tempted to put Northern Iowa in the East Regional final instead of Villanova, but I think having the game in Syracuse could help Villanova.

Here's an article I came across that I thought was kind of neat:

Also, at this time, it looks like the election in Israel is too close to call. I have a feeling it'll be days before the dust settles and we figure out who is leading the government there.

  5. Turning back and forth between the basketball game and DWTS, I really don't know who looked the best. So I will go with the triple stereotype to be my early favorite to win. It is difficult to figure who the audience will vote for. I would guess the disabled vet would get the most sympathy votes. But then I have more handicap than him! He is missing an arm and he has a prosthetic leg. I have a bad shoulder and a leg with sciatica. I am also Asian and twice as old as him. So if I was on the show I should get more sympathy votes than him!

Seriously, I hope the vet goes a long way. It is people like him who should be models for kids, not the rich famous athletes.

The Israel election is a dead heat. Also the eventual "winner" may not be the prime minister because neither Herzog nor Netanyahu will get even 25% of the seats in the Knesset. So they will have to bargain with other parties to form a majority. So the one with less seats can theoretically come out on top. Most likely Netanyahu will be able to form a coalition. I am afraid then peace will be less obtainable.

I have no desire to do the bracket this year as M is not even in it. But I would agree with you on Kentucky, Arizona, and Virginia. Ironically, when I saw the draw for UCLA, which probably should have had to play a first round game to get in, I thought they can beat SMU and win a second game as well. So will see which of us make the right pick here. I also think UC Irvine can upset Louisville. I think Louisville is over rated and Irvine has this 7'6 guy from Africa who is very raw but can be a nightmare for teams that never seen him before. So that is my big upset pick.

The news about the first Chinese lawyer in the U.S. was prominent in the LA Times and my local paper today. So I am well aware of this and am very pleased to learn about it.

I would think that doing a bracket will be better this year, since you don't have to let any bias get in the way. Of course, I can't do that, since it's been 18 years since my team hasn't made the tournament!

You can't use your Asian genes as a handicap anymore, since it's been proven that Asians are very good dancers. Asians have had multiple winners and even last year had a top finisher.

Now, you can't use your age either since there are 3 people who are on DWTS this season who are older than you and they looked good!

Plus, I thought the dancing HELPED your sciatica!

I'm pretty much done talking about Israel. It's going to be days before everything shakes out and I'm still not sure if that'll be the end of it. I hope for peace and I'm not sure what will happen when a new President is elected here.

So just between the two of us, I'll be taking SMU over UCLA and you are going the opposite. We'll see what happens!
