The loss of the Democratic candidate in the special Georgia election last week is important not only in that the Democrats failed to pick up any of the four seats vacated by Republicans who went to work for Trump.  It seems now that just tying GOP candidates to the unpopular Trump is not enough to win in 2018.  Beyond that there are couple more things that are related to this loss.

If the Democrats had prevailed last week, it is likely that the GOP health bill in the senate will fail.  Centrist Republicans will be afraid to vote for it.  There would also be Republicans in the House who might think of retiring rather than to fight a difficult fight.  Now I think the Republicans are more emboldened.  I think there is greater than 50% chance that the health bill will pass.

I think it is time for Nancy Pelosi to step down as minority leader.  Democrats use Trump against the GOP but the Republicans use Pelosi against the Democrats.  Her name is just as toxic as that of Trump.  Whereas the GOP cannot get rid of Trump, the Democrats should get rid of Pelosi as leader.  It is time for fresh leadership anyway.

The health bill, if passed and reconciled with the House bill, will help the Democrats greatly in future elections.  Instead of the GOP complaining about Obamacare, which is gaining popularity, the Democrats can complain about Trumpcare, which Trump himself has declared "mean".  By decreasing Medicaid funding and insurance subsidies, the eventual GOP plan will hurt the poor white people who voted for Trump more than other groups.   Right now no matter what Trump does, there are 36% of people who would support him.  I think when some of them lose their Medicaid or insurance subsidy, then we will see his core support erode significantly.

Lastly, no tape?   What a shock!  Given his claim of Obama's birth, should anyone believe Trump when he hinted there were tapes?  As is many cases with him, the emperor has no clothes.

I think it would have been hard for any Democrat to win in Georgia no matter how the polls are for Trump. This last one, the candidate distanced herself from Trump (or at least didn't use him for her campaign), which I think helped her. However, I noticed in her speech that she praised and thanked him. So it's pretty interesting to see that.

It's all politics as usual. Win by any means necessary and I can understand that. That's also why I try to cut through the BS during the campaign. But it's hard, because you can't tell what the candidates are saying are lies or the truth.

For instance, I have a nephew who is a part of a minority group that usually supports Democrats. He has taken on a job for a Conservative candidate for senator. I haven't talked to him about it, since he's only worked on this candidate's campaign for a few weeks. But I can't imagine how hard it is for him. Then again, maybe it's not hard at all. By the way, the candidate was a major contributor for the Trump campaign here. So it'll be interesting to see how far the candidate goes in the primary. There are a couple of other high profile candidates going against this person.

So back to Georgia. If I am a Democrat, I would be disappointed that they couldn't win, but also be encouraged that the race was so close, because in other years, it would be a blowout.

As far as the health care bill, it looks like it'll be a close vote. There have been a few Republicans who have come out against it, which really surprised me. I'm thinking that they must know that if they vote for it, that they will be out of a job after the election.

So, do you think there is a tape? If so, has it been destroyed? Who knows.

What are your thoughts about the possibility that Justice Kennedy will retire? Will we finally see Judge Judy on the supreme court bench?

  2. No, I am sure there was no tape. It is all a bluff. That is why I said the emperor has no clothes. He can lie like that in business and maybe there is no consequences. But hopefully sooner or later it will catch up to him.

If Kennedy retiree, the court will move more to the right. Kennedy is center right but whoever Trump appoints will be more conservative. It does not bode well for the liberal causes.
