Been having trouble with my computer so did not write over the weekend.  I was going to write that the Democrats cannot win by using government shutdown to help the dreamers.  Despite the fact that a majority of the people want to help the dreamers, more people don't want a government shutdown over it.  So finally the Democrats caved today and basically passed the same thing from Friday.  So I think despite Trump was wrong to abandon DACA and was useless in trying to get a budget passed, he came out looking better than the Democratic leadership.

If the Democrats were going to hold out, they should have insisted that there be no money for the wall.  Unlike DACA, the wall is a legitimate budget issue.  They should insist that Trump keeps his promise that Mexico pays for the wall.  The GOP framed the budget debate to Democrats wanting to help illegals while hurting the troops by shutting the government.  The Democrats should frame the debate that Trump refused or unable to get Mexico to pay for the wall as promised and thus deprived the troops money by spending it on the wall.

Notice how politicians always use security issues to justify their spending.  So if the budget is not passed, it is the troops who lose, not welfare queens.  On the liberal side, they always asks for bond money to fund schools, police and firemen.  But of course, those things should be funded by original tax money.  It is because the tax money was not spent wisely that special bonds are needed.  When the government shut down over the weekend, there was talk that the troops oversea would not be able to see the football playoffs.  But the telecasts were then deemed essential and thus was funded.  It makes me feel more secure that the troops were given these essential tools to keep us safe!

I get the impression you are joking with that last line. However, don't forget that high morale among troops is necessary. You are right though that the framing by the Dems ended up hurting them. However, they decided to go with the hotter topic, which is DACA. I get a feeling that the wall will be this long term thing. I still scratch my head when people are so passionate about this wall. Have their lives been so affected by not having the wall?

Well, my prediction for the Super Bowl has crashed when Minnesota was killed Sunday. By default, I will now have to take Philadelphia, since you originally picked New England. It looks like both coordinators will be leaving after the Super Bowl. I wonder how that will affect them in the future. Even though I'm not a Tom Brady fan, I really respect what he and Bellichik have done. I wonder if those two were somewhere else that they'd win as much as they have.

  2. I was, of course, being sarcastic about the telecasts. I was, however, making fun of the GOP, not the troops. The troops need the morale booster. Thus, Bob Hope was very important and others have followed him. But when the government shut down, the GOP said that things like the telecasts and military exercises cannot go on without a budget. That is, of course, nonsense. The budget for those things had already been accounted for and the telecasts, I am sure, is a very tiny expense for the military. But then they realized that during the telecasts, the broadcaster always say that the game is being seen at such foreign bases. If there is no telecast, they probably will mentioned that too. So to prevent looking bad because the telecasts are cancelled, they reinstated them and calling them essential services. So the telecasts are more essential than military exercises which are still cancelled. So that is why I was being sarcastic.

Finally, today Schummer took the wall off the table. Patrick Leahy said that Trump should open an account and when money from Mexico comes in, put it into the account to build the wall. That is what I wanted the Democrats to say all along.

As you know, I am no longer a Brady fan. But you just knew that when down by 10 in the 4th quarter, that NE was coming back despite Gronkowski going out. So I am not going to change my mind now and bet against NE as long as Brady is still playing.
