Many news pundits believe that Stephen Miller is the guy who drives the anti-immigrant policies in the Trump administration.  He maybe responsible for Kirstjen Nielsen and others who are out at the DHS.  It is remarkable how this 33 year old has that much power.  But to me, what is remarkable is how much hatred this man has for immigrants and refugees given that his family history includes escape from Jewish persecution from the Russian Empire.

Of course many descendants of undocumented immigrants and refugees are vehemently against those fleeing persecution or economic disasters today.  Recently, Trump was cheered at a Jewish group meeting for his anti-immigrant stand.  I am sure there are descendants of holocaust survivors and victims in that crowd.  They should understand that if  their ancestors had a choice of coming here as undocumented immigrants or suffered their fate, the choice would be obvious.  And we as a country should have taken them in.

The same with the descendants of those who escaped Vietnam, the Irish famine, and Mao's China.  How can those people be against undocumented immigrants and refugees?  Even if their ancestors came by the legal route, they should realize that if the legal route took too long, given the  circumstances, their ancestors would be doing the same thing as those at our border today.

Turned out my prediction of Virginia for the NCAA basketball championship was correct.  But I can't claim any skill as I said it without much conviction.  I just thought that Virginia had the easiest regional and most likely to get to the Final Four.  Turned out, they were remarkably lucky to win at least three of the games.  I had no idea that Texas Tech, who were much more convincing than Virginia in getting to the finals, would be that good.  Parity has come to college basketball.

Now for the NBA.  I am taking the Bucks and the Greek Freak to win it all.  I think GS will have a much harder time getting out of the West.  I think they will be tired out by the time they get to the Finals.

So this Steve Miller is not the singer? That makes sense I guess! Well, regarding your immigration statement, I think that people are pro immigrant when it comes to their own people but there isn't much empathy for others. Especially if they are of a different skin color.

I haven't seen the results in Israel, but it'll be interesting to see what happens there. It's clear that Trump is currently good with the current leadership there, but I wonder what the relationship will be like if it changes.

I've seen a good split with Jews here. I know some who are pro Trump and support the current leadership there. I know others who are anti Trump and want a more peaceful region.

Was really impressed with Texas Tech and last night's game was a surprise to me because of two teams that were known for defense actually scored quite a few points. I was impressed with Virginia's ability to make plays when they needed to. And yes, you have to have some good luck on your side to win.

One of my best friends is a big Milwaukee fan. I'll be rooting for Toronto on the east but Milwaukee probably win it still. And of course I'll pick Golden State to win it all. Never bet against the champions. What's the word in LA about the Lakers not making it to the playoffs? Is the blame more on the coach, LeBron, the rest of the team or on Magic?

  2. I thought that when Hamas bombed Israel recently that they were making a mistake of helping Netanyahu win. But my brother in law pointed out that Hamas does want Netanyahu to win because then there is less likely to be peace and that will keep Hamas in power. I think the same with Trump who wants to keep chaos on the border here and in elsewhere.

I will root for Toronto since Jeremy Lin is there although he is not playing well and won't get much playing time. I think most of the blame from fans is toward Magic and Pelinka for bad trades and drafts. Only Kuzma has worked out well so far from all those lottery picks and he wasn't one of those. They got rid of DeAngelo Russel too early. But Luke Walton will be the fall guy. They will need Anthony Davis and another star to be contenders before James is too old. It is interesting that a Michigan and a MSU guy are blamed together here.

  3. Couple of updates. Netanyahu appears to have won. This is good news for Trump not only because he and Netanyahu get along but also because, despite all the legal troubles, Netanyahu still won. So Trump must be thinking that the same can happen to him in 2020.

Magic has resigned. During his so called news conference, Magic indirectly blamed, Jeannie Buss, Luke Walton, Rob Pelinka and the league rules for the Lakers' troubles. Maybe he should look in the mirror also. The others had faults but I don't think Magic was very good at evaluating talent. He also was distracted by a lot of things he is involved in. His full attention was not on the Lakers. Most former great players don't make good coaches or general managers. One exception was Jerry West. I think the Lakers need to bring him back.

I will be the first to admit that I don't understand Israeli politics and all the different parties involved. From the looks of it, the Blue and White party was only 1 seat down, so the election was a lot closer than I thought it would be. It'll be interesting to see what happens to Israeli policy or if Netanyahu back peddles from his far right campaign promises. I just think that if you go hard line on the Palestinians, then it causes more resentment and more "acts of war".

Funny how the Magic stuff happened the night after I had asked about the Lakers. Magic has an old school belief on how basketball should be played and how the organization should be run. I'm sure he tried what Dr. Buss would have done to build the team. Nobody would have envisioned that they would not make the playoffs with LeBron. But yeah, some strange moves and weird attempts at trying to get Anthony Davis hurt the team in the long run. I think Luke Walton was a fine choice before LeBron showed up. He was a hot name in coaching. I would argue that bringing in LeBron was a no brainer, but in hindsight, it destroyed the team. The Lakers were a playoff team previously, so maybe that's where the team was broken. Also, I think that bringing in Rob Pelinka was a bad move. He didn't have experience to run a team as a GM. But I guess Magic trusted Rob and thought that he could negotiate these great deals. Ultimately, the failure falls on Magic's watch and something must have happened with ownership or all parties involved for him to step down. It's just a weird way of doing it and not telling Jeannie Buss, who was supposed to be a very good friend of Magic's.

So where do the Lakers go from here? Maybe it's time for Jeannie to sell the team. Is she still dating Phil Jackson? Would Pat Riley come back? Heck, throw all your money at Jerry West and see if he can build a team one last time.

  5. Israel is a parliament country which means that if a party doesn't get a majority in the parliament, then its leader has to form a coalition with other parties to get to a majority to form a government. Netanyahu will be more conservative because he will bring in more conservative parties in order to get to a majority. So the prospect for a more dovish policy is very slim.

Actually if you read between the lines, Magic and Pelinka did not get along. Pelinka was Jeanie's choice because she liked him as Kobe's agent from before. Neither Pelinka and Magic had any front office experience. So basically Jeanie is not her father, Magic is not Jerry West, Pelinka is not Mitch Kupchak, and Luke Walton is not Pat Riley or Phil Jackson, at least not yet. Also Lebron, unlike Magic, does not have a Kareem or a Worthy. So I don't know where they go from here!
