Trump said in the past that he knew more than the generals. He then appointed four generals in his inner circle. So we thought that at least he will get good military advice. Then he had to get rid of Michael Flynn. We thought that at least he got rid of a bad guy. But now the other 3 generals are gone. McMaster, Kelly and now Mattis. I guess he still thinks that he knows more than the generals.
Mattis is the last one to resign because Trump abruptly announced pulling troops from Syria. This was shocking to everyone in the military. Even a lot of Republicans are shocked. This will only benefit Russia, ISIS and Iran. The proof is that Putin came out applauding the move. You have to ask: Do Trump and Putin know more about what is good for the U.S. than American generals? Is Trump working for Russia?
I'm a little worried when someone doesn't follow an expert opinion. This raises a red flag. It's like having a General Manager drafting a player instead of following his scouts' opinions. I'm not sure if it's ego or if there's an agenda going on here. I don't want to be conspiracy-type, but wow, for us to pull out of Syria, this only helps Russia. This worries me and doesn't make sense.
ReplyDeleteNow, I'm always in favor of bringing troops home, but we've learned that you can't pull out without some kind of strategy and you have to leave the country in better condition and with the ability to be self sustaining.
If you're trying to show that Russia has no influence on you, then why would you do something that makes it look like you're in cahoots with Russia?
Hopefully, I'll be wrong and it'll be a great move.

American generals like Mattis can be wrong. But they do have the welfare of the U.S. as their focus. Putin is obviously against America interest. So are we going to believe Putin who applaud this move or Mattis who is resigning over this move?
ReplyDeleteAt first Trump didn't have anything bad to say about Mattis when he received the resignation letter. Only when people pointed out the passages where he subtly disparaged Trump that he got mad. So today he basically fired Mattis by replacing him with an interim Sec. of Defense by Jan. 1st instead of end of Feb. as Mattis had said. So it looked like he didn't know how bad the letter made him look till it was talked about all over the news. So it is the old "I quit, no you can't quit, you are fired!"
